Sketches by Sasha
A Poem by Naqiya Taher
the
grass so green,
the sun so bright, life seems a dream,
no worries in
sight
tans and tank tops,
laughter and bliss,
each moment
passes,
without even a miss
friends and cookouts,
memories and
laughs,
good times to remember,
but how long will it last
the
grass soon fades,
leaves begin to fall,
school replaces sleepovers,
oh I'll miss it

UNLIMITED
LOVE
She waits for the school bus clutching her
mother’s hand,
aware that she will be
separated,
from that care and warm
compassion.
Her grip tightens as she spots the
van,
coming to grab her away like a witch or a
monster,
and send her to a place against her
will.
The van arrives; mother gives her a gentle
push,
her fear and anxiety growing for her dear
child,
as she waves with
sadness,
not wanting to see off her precious
gem.
The girl wears the
gloom,
at the sight of her mother going out of
sight,
her memories overflow into her
mind,
of last night’s
lullaby.
Holding back her
tears,
when she recollects her mother’s
kiss,
tears roll down her pink
cheeks.
Her heart holds the burden of
depression,
too heavy to
withstand,
starts she to
sob.
The scenes flash one by one into her
mind,
no one to notice, no one to look after
her,
strangers all around
her,
her brittle heart
shatters,
her throat goes
dry,
her eyes flooded with
tears,
each tear for each bunch of love and care that she misses.
The small girl
realizes,
that the sky’s the
limit,
for a mother’s dedication towards her
child.

HOLIDAY HOMEWORK-A PAIN OR
GAIN?!
“Girls, the holiday homework will be
uploaded on GLG. Please complete it and bring”, well, this most certainly is the
part where the entire class starts moaning and screaming for freedom from
homework, the scene is almost like the scene of the war of independence
discluding the arms. However, my point is, Do the students get benefited from
holiday homework?? The answer is certainly a YES!!!. Our teachers are not our
enemies that they will stack us up with homework and saturate all our holidays,
they just want us to understand our responsibilities towards our education and
also prevent all that we studied to be evaporated from our brain as they know,
we are not EINSTEIN. Now, the biggest problem is that we make a bigger fuss than
needed, everyone goes like this “there an ample number of project works and
after they get corrected they are thrown in the trash, what’s the point of
giving us such a useless holiday homework”. Umm, but let me remind all those
girls who would prefer A or O level education over CBSE board that these boards
emphasize on project work the most. If we authentically and factually try to
complete our holiday homework, we can get rid of it within one week. So, all you
have to spare from your luxurious eight weeks of vacations is one week.
A sincere recommendation to all my fellow students is that don’t fret
when you have holiday homework just have this thing in mind that as soon as I
finish my duty towards school I have all the time to enjoy (ash)
